It’s just turkey!

Happy Thanksgiving! I was speaking to one of my coaching partners over IM this morning and I asked him if he was ready for Thanksgiving. He replied, “It’s just turkey.” Is Thanksgiving Day just a big meal? I don’t think so. Please feel free to comment on this post and tell me what this American holiday means to you.

Here is what Thanksgiving means to me. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year. For me it is a time to bring family and friends together and give thanks for all of the good things we have experienced during the past year. This year is especially exciting for me because this is the first year that Loree and I are having Thanksgiving at our home with my side of the family. My parents are coming over from Southern California for the holiday weekend.

This year I have a lot to be thankful for as do most of us in the IT industry. While the economy has been down and our country has seen record home foreclosures, unemployment, business failures and decreased consumer confidence, our industry has trudged on. I have been able to coach some amazing MSPs who’s businesses have seen double and triple digit growth in 2009. Even the startup MSP firms that I have been working with have had amazing first year successes.

Whatever you are thankful for this holiday season, please take a moment to think about those less fortunate If you are in a position to do a little something for them, many grocery stores have food donation bins and whatever you can spare will be put to good use and greatly appreciated. And please, let’s all remember our troops who are serving our country and are unable to be with their families on this holiday.

Wishing you and your loved ones a happy and healthy Thanksgiving holiday.

All the best,

Stu

Since we have no family close by to share Thanksgiving with we have had to search out other ways to celebrate the day. Our options have been to dine at the casino buffets with the others like us, to volunteer at a soup kitchen serving others or a quite day at home watching parades, holiday shows and reflecting on what we are grateful for. We don't go to any stores that are open as we feel that the workers have been deprived of family time. Yet in the past I have known people who wanted to work because they don't have anyone to celebrate with or they choose not to celebrate. America has become such a diversified country that you could ask many people what the day means to them and get many answers. The bottom line to me is that each of us take time to reflect on what we are grateful for...express it to others and celebrate in our own way. Happy Thanksgiving!!

It is a great time - all of my kids are home and getting ready for tomorrow. Tyler will have his friends over and then play some sandlot. Should be a full house of friends and family.

Best wishes to all - take time off to be with family.
