Yes you, the business owner, are the biggest reason why your business isn’t more successful. I am not trying to offend you, but come on; you are the one at the helm of your company. When you point the finger at someone else for the failures in your business you have 3 other fingers pointing back at you.
As usual, there is a story behind this blog post.
I was in a Skype chat with a friend today. He told me he was planning to merge his business with someone else in January. I asked him why. He began to tell me his sob story about how he can never seem to close new clients. Even when he gets referrals the prospect always finds a way to push the meeting back and never returns his calls. I proceeded to tell him that he may not be communicating in a manner that allows the prospect to understand the value of the services he has to offer. He claimed that the prospects just want to “shop” him for price and services. I suggested that he needs to work on his presentation skills. Because if he was doing everything right, like he said he was, his prospects would clearly see the value and have no need to shop around.
The conversation went on and on and finally my friend said, “I am just not a sales person and I only want to be a technician.” Well there you have it! His drive is gone. He admitted to me that he is the biggest obstacle to having a flourishing business.
I see this all the time with a portion of the MSPs that I have spoken to. They want everything to happen yesterday. Just because you hang a sign on your door that says, “OPEN for BUSINESS” doesn’t mean that you really are open for business. If you find yourself in the same situation as my friend then here is some advice for you…
GET OUT OF YOUR OWN WAY!
STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR YOUR FAILURES!
It is time for you to suck it up and learn from all the mistakes that you continue to make over and over and over again. It is like a small child learning to walk. There are a lot of miss-steps along the way, but eventually, through trial and error, he learns to walk on his own.
If you need help, ask for it. If you need coaching, get it. It is now time for you to invest in yourself and your business. There is no time like today to make the changes you need to make your life and business a better place.
All the best in success,
Stu
